The Accident

A lady contacted our team of specialist dog bite compensation lawyers after suffering a dog attack.

She was employed as a domestic cleaner. On her first visit to a new customer’s house, the customer told her that before she left, he would introduce her to his dog. He said that it was a rescue dog.

The dog was in the boot of the customer’s car when he took her to see it. When he opened the boot the dog jumped out and bit the lady on her arm. Although the dog was on a lead, the customer was not able to restrain the dog. He had also failed to put its muzzle on it.

The Dog Bite Injuries

The lady suffered cuts and puncture wounds with associated bruising to her forearm. She required emergency medical treatment. When the wounds eventually healed over, she was left with permanent discolouration of her arm in the region of the bites and had to keep the affected area out of sunlight for three years to prevent further discolouration.

How We Helped Claim Compensation

Our team of specialist dog bite injury lawyers sent a detailed letter of claim to the owner of the dog, explaining what had happened and why we considered him to be responsible for the injury. He passed the claim to his insurers who investigated it and, eventually, admitted fault on behalf of the dog owner.

We arranged for our client to be examined by an independent consultant plastic surgeon. The medical expert produced a report setting out the full details of the injuries and giving his opinion as to what the future had in store for the residual discolouration.

We also obtained full details of our client’s financial losses which she suffered as a result of the accident along with a series of photographs of the wounds which she had taken over a period of time, to show how the healing had progressed.

We sent full details of the claim to the solicitors appointed by the dog owner’s insurers to deal with the claim.

We were able to negotiate a final settlement sum of £3,250 for our client, which was over 50% more than the solicitors had originally offered to settle the claim for.
