The Incident
A lady contacted Actons Injury Solicitors after she was a guest at a guesthouse and was bitten by a dog.
The owners of the guesthouse owned a Rottweiler dog which was free to roam around the guesthouse and often interacted with guests staying there.
The owners had told the lady not to approach the dog, but it should be okay if the dog approached her.
One evening, the lady returned to the guesthouse with food. The owners of the guesthouse asked her to eat the food in the downstairs dining area as they did not allow people to take food upstairs to the rooms. She sat down and the Rottweiler was sitting beside her to her right-hand side.
The Dog Bite Injury
As the lady shifted in her seat, the dog bit her causing a serious fracture injury to her thumb. She required surgery because of the dog bite as well as physiotherapy
How we helped claim compensation
The lady got in touch with our specialist personal injury lawyers to find out how we could help her claim compensation for her injuries following the dog attack.
We believed that the owners of the dog and guesthouse were to blame for the dog attack. They did not warn her of the dog’s temperament, exposed her to a risk of injury and failed to keep her safe in their premises.
One of our specialist personal injury lawyers wrote to the owners of the guesthouse and then issued a claim against them.
Despite the guesthouse owners’ insurer denying they were to blame, saying that she moved her hand down towards the dog even though she was warned not to do this. We were able to secure an offer of compensation of £10,000. However, we believe this claim is worth more and so we are obtaining a medical report to get a higher offer of compensation for our client.
