Warburtons has been fined after an accident at work saw a worker’s arm get trapped against a running conveyor whilst working in the company’s Nottingham factory.

CCTV footage confirmed that the worker was cleaning parts of the bread line when  his arm got trapped between two conveyors, leaving him requiring skin grafts due to serious friction burns. Part of the machine had to be dismantled to release him.

Health and Safety inspectors found that the accident could have been prevented if the machine had been fitted with localised guarding. This would have prevented access between the conveyors while they were running..

Warburtons pleaded guilty to breaching Regulation 11 of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998. The company has been fined £1.9m and ordered to pay full costs of £21,459.71.
