Over 130 people fell ill last June after eating food served by The Khyber Pass in Hyson Green, Nottingham.
At least 10 of those who suffered had symptoms so severe they ended up visiting the hospital including one girl who ended up in Intensive care. One of the victims said ‘they had never felt so ill.’
An investigation into the food poisoning found the food had traces of human faeces which in some cases lead to a strain of E.coli bacteria.
The food contamination was attributable to low hygiene levels when staff washed their hands, surfaces and equipment used to prepare food. The owners of Khyber Pass had a duty towards their customers and consequently pleaded guilty to 7 offences of failing to satisfy food safety and hygiene provisions.
They have been sentenced to 4 months suspended sentence and were ordered to pay each victim £200 in compensation with some being awarded a great deal more.
If you or someone you know has suffered as a result of someone else failing to fulfil their statutory duty then you too could be entitled to compensation.
