Ever thought you would find plastic in your chocolate bar?
A recent news story concerning an international recall of Mars branded chocolate bars, across 55 countries, has sparked awareness to the common problem that is, foreign bodies in our food.
Mars carried out a voluntary recall of its products after a customer in Germany found a red piece of plastic in their snickers bar. The plastic was thought to have come from the protective cover used in the manufacturing process.
Due to the size of the company and the extent of the recall, Mars attracted widespread media coverage but in actual fact this sort of event is not uncommon.
Mars had the capacity to respond to this incident where many other companies don’t. Foreign bodies are found across a variety of foods every day and can cause any number of injures.
