A schoolgirl aged 9 was thrown from a fairground ride that was going at a speed of 50 miles per hour.

The safety bar, meant to secure riders in their seat, came loose and the girl was thrown 15 feet into the air when she tried to pull the bar back to lock herself and her little sister back in the seat.

She hit the metal barrier edging the ride sideways, causing severe internal and external bruising and vomiting due to the impact on her kidneys. She was treated at the scene for suspected broken neck and legs, spending a night in hospital and requiring at least one week away from school.

The Health and Safety executive are making enquiries into the rides safety.
