A horserider was struck on the leg by a fast moving car whilst hacking. The impact knocked the wing mirror of the car and caused the woman to fall from the horse.
The horse itself was not injured, but the rider suffered whiplash and was diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder.
As a result of the accident the woman has moved her horse to another yard in order to avoid the particular road that the accident happened on, as it was causing her too much anxiety.
A claim was brought for her physical and psychological injuries plus the financial losses accrued as a result of moving the horse to a different yard. The matter was settled out of court and the rider obtained a settlement of £12,000.
